๐Ÿ’ผ Careers at Betloy

Build sport tech for African and global bettors

Betloy is a small, focused team in Nigeria building the conversion utilities, odds tools and B2B infrastructure that experienced punters across Africa already use every day. We hire opportunistically when we find the right person.

Betloy is part of African Sporting Technology (AST) โ€” a Nigerian sport-tech group building products, content and infrastructure for the continent's sports audience. Within AST, Betloy is the product/platform play: odds comparison, bet code conversion, the embeddable widget and the REST API that lets other sites ship our tooling under their own brand.

We work in a small, async-friendly team. Most of the engineering, editorial and ops sit in Nigeria. Roles are typically remote-first with optional Lagos hub days for those who want them. We don't have a customer-support BPO; every customer-facing email is answered by someone on the team. We don't have a sales gauntlet; the people doing the work make the decisions.

What we look for

Five things that come up in every hiring conversation.

๐ŸŽฏ

Output beats rรฉsumรฉ

We care more about what you've shipped than where you went to school or how many years are on the CV. Be ready to show real work.

๐Ÿ“

Comfortable with ambiguity

Small teams in fast-moving markets means decisions get made with incomplete information. We need people who can pick a direction, ship, and adjust.

๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฌ

African market understanding

Knowing how punters actually use bookmakers in Lagos, Nairobi or Accra โ€” what payment rails matter, what app weight is acceptable on 3G โ€” is a real edge.

โœ๏ธ

Clean writing

Every role at Betloy involves writing โ€” code reviews, support emails, partnership pitches, internal docs. Clarity in writing is a hard requirement.

๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ

Responsible by default

We work in sports betting. We're 18+ throughout and we don't push punters to bet more. Anyone joining the team needs to be aligned with that ethic.

Speculative applications

No role that fits, but think you'd add value?

We hire opportunistically. If you're an engineer with experience scaling on African networks, an editorial writer with a deep sports-betting background, a partnerships lead with operator relationships, or a designer who's shipped consumer-facing African products โ€” send us a CV and a short note about what you'd do here.

Email: HR@betloy.com

What to include: CV, links to two or three things you've shipped (code, articles, products, campaigns), and one paragraph on why Betloy specifically.

Process

How we interview

Three rounds, no whiteboard nonsense.

  1. Initial conversation (30 min, video). The hiring manager walks you through what the role actually looks like and asks about the work you've shipped. You ask whatever you want about Betloy.
  2. Practical exercise (asynchronous, ~2 hours of your time). A real-world task scoped to the role โ€” for engineering, a small code task; for editorial, a writing brief; for ops, a vendor-evaluation exercise. We pay you for your time on this round if you'd like to be paid; many candidates skip the payment.
  3. Team conversation (60 min, video). Meet two or three people you'd work with. We discuss your exercise output, run through expectations, and answer the rest of your questions.

Decision within five working days of the final round. We give honest, specific feedback to every candidate who reaches the practical-exercise stage, whether or not we make an offer.

Careers FAQs

Quick answers about working at Betloy.

Where is Betloy based?
Nigeria ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฌ. The legal entity, the leadership team, and most of the staff are in Nigeria. We don't have offices anywhere else.
Do you hire remote?
Most roles are remote-first with optional Lagos hub days. Some roles (typically partnerships and senior leadership) prefer hybrid presence in Lagos. The role description specifies which model applies.
Do you sponsor visas / hire outside Nigeria?
We're not currently sponsoring visas. Roles are open to candidates who have the right to work in Nigeria โ€” or who can work effectively in West Africa Time (WAT) hours from elsewhere on the African continent for fully-remote roles.
What's the company stage?
Betloy is part of African Sporting Technology (AST), an established Nigerian sport-tech group. Betloy itself is at the post-product-market-fit stage with growing B2B traction. Small team, fast decisions, low overhead.
What does compensation look like?
Competitive Naira-denominated base + role-specific performance components. Specific bands are shared on the first call once we understand the seniority match. We don't negotiate based on what you currently earn โ€” we anchor to the band for the role.
Do you take placements via recruiters?
Not currently. We hire direct. Please don't have an agency reach out on your behalf โ€” it slows the process down and we don't pay placement fees.
I work in the sports-betting industry. Is that a conflict?
Not necessarily. We have a clear conflict-of-interest policy that gets discussed in the first conversation. Working at a bookmaker we cover doesn't automatically disqualify you, but we'll talk about how to manage information walls if relevant.
How do I apply?
For listed roles, click the role above and follow the apply instructions on the role page. For speculative applications, email HR@betloy.com with your CV, two or three things you've shipped, and one paragraph on why Betloy.
