This week marks the beginning of hope for football fans across the world as the Premier League teams return to action and start their pre-season tours. Arsenal vs Bayern Munich – 19^th July

Arsenal begin their International Champions Cup campaign against painfully familiar opposition in Bayern Munich. The German giants battered them 10-2 on aggregate in the Champions League last season and Arsene Wenger and company will be keen to claw back at least a shred of dignity when they meet in Shanghai on 19^th July. Whether they can manage that is another question entirely though, and it’s unlikely to lessen the pain of that embarrassment.

 

Manchester Derby – 20^th July

The ever expanding International Champions Cup invites two of the Premier League’s biggest rivals to the North American instalment of the competition on the 20^th July, with both teams kicking off their friendly tournament campaign against each other in Houston, Texas.

Whilst this might not be as ferociously contested as many of their other meetings it’s certainly worth keeping an eye on. It will also be the first time these two sides have met on foreign soil.

The Manchester sides will follow this clash with games against prestigious opposition such as Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Spurs in the week following this.

Chelsea vs Arsenal – 22^nd July

With the Premier League champions and the FA Cup champions set to go head to head at Wembley at the start of August this will be a perfect warm up for the pair. The two meet at the Bird’s Nest Stadium in Beijing for a pre-cursor to their Community Shield clash just a few weeks later.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Juventus – 5^th August

Tottenham Hotspur have a star studded pre-season campaign including opponents such as PSG, AS Roma, and Manchester City but it’s this one that catches the eye. Spurs prepare for a full season at Wembley Stadium with a final friendly clash against Serie A dominants Juventus just a week before the Premier League season kicks off.
