Copa America – Argentina Vs Colombia: Messi’s final chance for his Nation

Group B kicks of with a thrilling encounter tonight between two heavy weights. Lionel Messi and his Albiceleste will be hoping to go past the likes of Radamel Falcao (Monaco)  and James Rodriguez (Bayern Munich), to end their 26 years drought of a senior national title (since 1993 Copa America in Ecuador).

This fixture is more like a south american classic in recent times. Last time they met (2015 Copa America) it ended in a penalty shootout and Argentina was the team to progress.

The Golden generation of players like Lionel Messi, Sergio Aguero, Angel Di Maria, will indeed be desperate in this particular tournament, as time is no longer on their side. This might be their final opportunity to win anything for the country, which will go down well in history for them if they do. A victory here in Maracana will also redeem the squad of all their shortcomings in the previous three international finals.

Messi Clearly doesn’t have so much luck on his blue and white shirt. He has lost in three finals out of total of four Copa America competitions he has participated in. His current stat for his home country is also very Poor:

Messi has failed to score in 9 out of his last 13 appearances for Argentina. He has only scored twice in 8 appearances against tonight’s opponents.

Based on the trends between this two teams, and their most recent performances, Our Prediction for this match is UNDER 2.5 GOALS
